David Hyams Hyams and his trusty ensemble have produced an amazing album of virtuoso
music. This is an ensemble that excels with talent, warmth and joy. They
play together is as if they are speaking to each other, with a combination
of affection and aggression. Full of contemporary style and romanticism,
they are unique and original in their approach to arrangements of original
as well as traditional styles of playing. Review by Ben Kettlewell

'Miles to Go'
(Darkhorse Records DH001)
Miles
to Go, is a diverse collection of acoustic based instrumentals and features
some of Western Australia's best musicians from various musical backgrounds,
which include a rhythm section consisting of versatile percussionist Caryn
Sullivan alongside Zydecats bassist Ben Franz, classical cellist Jennifer
Tingley; former Devils on Horseback multi-instrumentalists Andy Copeman
and Pete Grandison on various "things with strings"; (as quoted
on the website) and the album features Dougal Adams and Ormonde Waters
(The Fling), two of Australia's premier players of wind instruments in
the celtic tradition.
Piper, Dougal Adams' contributions, especially on "The Old Speckled
Hen/Three for the Road" are the work of genius. The rest of the crew
isn't too shabby either. The Miles to Go Band is easily one of the finest
electric/acoustic ensembles from down under these days. To say that this
group of players is an egalitarian ensemble is an understatement. They
blend beautifully into one precise unit. It is stunning to hear a group
of such caliber. The recording itself is highlighted by an extreme spectral
clarity and separation of instruments. It is very much as if you were
sitting with the ensemble around you. The recording is as stunning as
the playing. So, what are you waiting for! Go to the Darkhorse website
and buy it!
