BIONAUT
'Au Naturel'

(Tiny Bubbles 118 cd)

Bionaut, a duo comprised of Christopher Green and Paul Eggleston perform on various analog synths and sequencers. The album is reminiscent of Tangerine Dreams classic lp, 'Underwater Sunlight', but goes much deeper into the ambient realm. The improvisations are technically astonishing, with drones and overtones seemingly descending from deep space. The album is an unfolding of a musical conception over a vast time frame. Analog textures are blended with samples throughout much like the near tactile soundscapes of Richard Bone, or Jeff Greinke. While many pieces utilize open structures and oozing rhythms, they never fall victim to indulgent looping or other forms of sonic excess. This music thrives on subtle textures and a broad timbral palette, rare qualities in our sound saturated environment. Both Chris and Paul have a high sensibility of melodic and structural formations. A great album for creative movement, relaxation, and contemplation.
