Kelly David "Broken Voyage" (Rocky Mountain Records, 2002) Broken Voyage is Colorado-based ambient composer, Kelly David's debut release. This wonderful new CD was mixed by Steve Roach in his Tucson studio, the Timeroom. The album is a conglomeration of innocently enticing, yet darkly sophisticated and sonically spacious music. Roach's engineering and mixing skills lend themselves well to David's compositions. Like an imaginary soundtrack, the album is imbued with six extraordinarily alluring compositions of profound atmospheric depth and subtlety, creating an uninterrupted voyage traversing through the introspective spaces of Kelly's fertile imagination. As the music of Broken Voyage washes over you, it creates an enlarged sense of sonic space which fully engulfs the senses. Kelly David takes the listener on a journey aboard a vessel of dreams spanning a sea of ethereal sounds - an intimate journey you will want to retrace many times. Highly recommended.
