James Potter
13 Drones
(Crawling Wind Records Crlwind01)

13 Drones is cool, cutting edge ambient ear candy. This is intelligent, creative music, which brings together elements of space, ambient, and industrial, forging a sound which is totally unique. Potter performs on primarily vintage analog gear such as the Serge Modular System, Arp 2600, Prophet V, Matrix 6R, and Matrix 1000, an 8 bit Emax sampler, guitar, rusted bells, and analog and digital effects, creating an atmosphere somewhere between the floating textures of vintage spacemusic and the focused textures of modern ambient sonorities, with a bit of sci-fi thrown in for good measure.

James Potter wades deeply into extraterrestrial territories and metaphorical dreamstates in this collection of 13 pieces, ranging in length from a little over a minute, to almost ten minutes. His independent mastery of spiraling unweildly modular synths and other assorted aural delights, is not only pleasing to the ear, but to the mind itself. Highly recommended!
